Student orientation sessions
Student Orientation Sessions are conducted on each campus of the Institute. For more information regarding scheduled sessions contact the Student Support Officer at the Student Services Unit at your Campus.
Note: Student Orientation Sessions are compulsory for all students of the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE.
Career and personal counselling
Student Counsellors are available across the Institute to assist students with the following:
- course/career and vocational counselling
- short term counselling for course related problems
- options for students experiencing financial difficulties
- interaction with Institute staff on behalf of students
- advice about services available in the community

Student support officers
Student Support Officers are responsible for a wide range of activities across the Institute. These include:
- assisting students with Resume writing and Interview techniques
- assisting students to secure suitable employment by providing a 'Job Placement Service'
- undertaking orientation/information sessions for students
- provision of support and assistance to the Student Representative Council

Student associations
Student Associations have a range of responsibilities that include:
- organising social events and the production of a regular news magazine
- managing student concerns
- representing the student body on the Institute Council

Disability services
The Disability Services are available to students with a disability requiring assistance to achieve their training and career goals. This may include:
- coordinating personal support services including; disability support workers, sign language interpreters, mentors and tutors
- arranging exam accommodations and further reasonable adjustments with teaching staff
- arranging professional assessment services
- organising adaptive equipment and assistance software loans on behalf of the student

Indigenous peoples' support officer
The Indigenous Peoples' Support Officer's responsibilities range from:
- organising services for Indigenous students
- liaison with local communities
- manage student issues
- cross cultural awareness for staff and students

Indigenous mentoring program
This program is designed to enhance the skills of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women undertaking a mentoring role. The program has been aligned to the Certificate IV in Government and you will complete 7 units that can be accredited towards the completion of the full qualification. To register for this program please contact the Office for Women on 1800 177 577 or visit www.women.qld.gov.au/seminars for further details.

International student officers
The International Student Officers provides a range of services to prospective and current international students that include:
- course enquiries
- administration of all procedures including processing, applications, issuing offers of place, enrolment and orientation
- assistance and advice on health cover, Visa, accommodation and transport
- referrals to student support, counselling, learning support and tutorials
Learning support
Learning Support provides assistance to student who require help with their academic studies.
Some ways assistance is provided is by:
- adult Learning Centre teachers and tutors
- telephone and Email tutorials
- personal tutoring with a volunteer tutor (in co-operation with the Adult Learning Units)
Libraries/Learning Hubs
A library is located on each Campus of the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE. Services include:
- texts and accompanying materials to support courses
- videos, magazines, CD ROMs, daily newspapers and fiction
- access to PCs including Microsoft products
- access to the Internet
- photocopying/printing services
- access to scanners
- video viewing facilities including access to use of equipment on campus
- training by library staff in accessing information (individual support is also available)
- module support for the trade courses
- intercampus loans and access to other TAFEs' library resources
Library staff are available to assist students access information and support material. Library opening hours vary between the campuses.
To be eligible to borrow from the library students must have a current Student ID Card.
Bookshop
A complete booklist will be sent to each enrolling student as part of their enrolment package by the faculties. The booklist contains the name of bookshops for the purchase of your books.
The Brisbane North Institute of TAFE bookshop, 'Qld Textbook Warehouse', is located in Block D, opposite Customer Service area, at the Bracken Ridge campus. New textbooks and stationery are for sale, and a secondhand book service also operates.
The bookshop at Bracken Ridge is open Monday to Friday - 8:30am to 5:00pm (8am to 6pm first few weeks of semester).
The bookshop visits Caboolture, Redcliffe, and Ithaca campuses for the first few weeks of each semester. Specific dates and times are to be advised. Gateway and Grovely campus stores will be visited on demand. For further information:

Students experiencing difficulty accessing the bookshop during trading hours may phone with credit card details or send a cheque or money order to prepay orders for collection at enrolments or the library. Students can also email orders.
