Why mentor?
Mentoring helps both the mentor and mentee.
For the mentee, it can help him/her:
- learn and develop faster than they would unguided
- develop industry links
- develop a greater appreciation for their chosen vocation
- progress more quickly in their chosen sphere
- be more motivated in his/her study
- gain a friend
For the mentor, it can help her/him:

learn and develop by guiding someone else (often more than the mentee)

understand and appreciate better new workers and students

specifically groom a learner for a chosen field

gain the satisfaction of helping someone

be more motivated in her/his work

gain a friend
Both need to be committed to the relationship to work, but as in most relationships, commitment brings great rewards.
