Asynchronous - Not occurring at the same time
Coaching - The act of training and motivating a person to success. Good coaching includes mentoring and vice-versa.
Chat (aka Inter-Relay Chat, IRC) - Synchronous textual online interaction. Different users have a real-time typed conversation via the Internet. It is very useful for live interaction with several mentees/menors. Some very significant relationships have arisen from regular chatting.
Conferencing (aka Online Conferencing. web conferencing, e-conferencing) - Synchronous online interaction with audio and/or video and/or shared applications (e.g. Word processing, Paint programs) and/or Chat
Discussion Forum (aka web forum, threaded discussion) - Asynchronous online interaction. An online place where participants can contribute to a topic of discussion, adding comments in their own time. Participants can start or answer various subtopics (threads).
e-Mail (Electronic Mail) - Written messages sent via the Internet. e-mails often allow attached files (such as word processed documents, presentations, pictures, video clips) to be sent. Most people have access to the various web-based e-mail services.

Learner - see Mentee
Mentee (aka Protégé, Learner) - Someone guided by a mentor.
Mentor - Someone who by virtue of knowledge, skills and experience guides and passes on wisdom to a mentee. Also the act of guiding a mentee. The term is derived from the Greek Legend of the Odyssey. Odysseus, King of Ithaca, left a steward to guide and advise his son Telemachus. That steward was very wise indeed as he was a guise of Athena, goddess of wisdom.

Telementoring - Mentoring from a distance, including use of telephone and online.
