Services for external students
As a student of the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE you have access to information resources and learning hub support services - regardless of whether you are training on or off campus. Our service includes a learning hub at each of the five BNIT campuses.

What services do I have access to?
- On campus access to resources and services in the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE learning hubs when required.
- Off campus access to Brisbane North Institute of TAFE learning hub resources by postal dispatch or courier.
- The provision and dispatch of information packages by the learning hub when requested.
How do I join the learning hub?
All enrolled students are automatically members of the learning hub. If you are intending to borrow in person from any of our learning hubs, you are required to have a Student Identification Card. This can be obtained from the Client Information Centres at any of our campuses.
Please let us know if your address changes during the time that you are enrolled at Brisbane North Institute of TAFE.

What may I borrow from the learning hub?
You can borrow up to 15 resources at any one time made up of the following (unless marked "Not for Loan", or some other loan period):
- Books - 4 weeks
- Magazines - 2 weeks
- DVDs & Videos - 1 week
Please note that Learning Hubs are not always able to provide set textbooks so it is advisable to purchase your own copy.
How do I access resources?
You can look up our catalogue at: https://brisbanenorth.qldtafe.spydus.com/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/OPAC/BSEARCH. You may request researched information and/resources by contacting the relevant learning hub or by placing an online request.
Can I renew loans?
You can renew your loans if no one else has reserved them and if the items are not more than 3 days overdue. You can renew your loans by contacting your campus learning hub, in person at your campus learning hub or on the Internet via the catalogue.
To renew your loans via the catalogue, you will require your student number and a PIN. The default PIN is date of birth (ddmmyyyy). You can login to My Library and change it to a number of your choice.
Can I put items "on hold"?
Items can be reserved via our catalogue you will require your student number and a PIN. The default PIN is date of birth (ddmmyyyy). You can login to My Library and change it to a number of your choice.
What about other TAFE libraries?
If you live close to a Queensland TAFE institute other than Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, you may be eligible to use some of the services and facilities offered by this institute's library. Please contact us and we will negotiate borrowing rights for you.
What are my obligations?
- Take responsibility for borrowed items and return them by the due date
- Pay postage costs for the return of resources
- Contact us if your address details change during your enrolment at Brisbane North Institute of TAFE
