How do I join the Learning Hub?
Students of the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE are automatically eligible to borrow from any of the campus learning hubs. Students need to present their current Student ID card. Membership will last until current enrolment ends. Learning Hub services are available for students studying off campus. See the information for external students for further details.
What can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 15 resources at any one time made up of the following (unless marked "Not for Loan" or some other loan period):
- Books - 4 weeks
- Fiction - 4 weeks
- Music CDs - 2 weeks
- Magazines - 2 weeks
- DVDs/Videos - 1 week.
How do I borrow?
You must present your current BNIT student card at the Loans Desk whenever you wish to borrow. All items will be stamped with a due date or you will be given a printed slip with due dates listed.
Where do I return my loans?
Loans can be returned at any of the Brisbane North Campus Learning Hubs. After hours return chutes are located at each campus Learning Hub.
Can I renew my loans?
Yes! You can renew loans of resources if no one else has reserved them and if the items are not more than 3 days overdue. You can renew your loans by contacting your campus learning hub, in person at your campus learning hub or on the Internet via the Catalogue.
To renew your loans via the Catalogue, You will require your student number and a PIN. The default PIN is date of birth (ddmmyyyy). You can login to My Library and change it to a number of your choice.
What about Inter-Campus Loans?
You are able to borrow from all BNIT Learning Hubs. If you see an item on our catalogue at another campus, you may either pick the item up yourself, or place a reservation via the catalogue. Items will usually arrive at the campus of your choice within 2-3 days.
Can I put items "on hold"?
Yes, reservations can be made via our catalogue. You will require your student number and a PIN. The default PIN is date of birth (ddmmyyyy). You can login to My Library and change it to a number of your choice.
What happens if my loans are overdue?
An overdue notice is sent via email, sms or post to borrowers if items are not returned by the due date. This is a courtesy service and the learning hub is not responsible for non-receipt of notices.
If the items are not returned, an invoice will be issued for the cost of each overdue item, in addition to a $30.00 (includes GST) processing fee. Borrowers are required to pay the $30.00 (includes GST) processing fee, even after the return of all invoiced items.
If you are having trouble returning your items by the due date, remember that you can renew your items by telephone or email, at the loans desk or via the catalogue.
What if I am not a student at Brisbane Institute of TAFE?
If you are a student at any Queensland TAFE, you are able to borrow from any of the BNIT Learning Hubs. You will be required to present your current Student ID card. Some Institutes will provide you with a letter of introduction, if not we will make contact with your Institute's library. Membership will last as long as you are currently enrolled at your Institute.
