"I chose this program at BNIT not only because I'm passionate about my art but studying while at school is a really convenient option because it's great to already have a qualification when you leave school.

I absolutely love attending BNIT; they teach great work concepts and the people are awesome. I absolutely love my teachers; they are extremely down to earth artists that in addition to having their own art careers are also fabulous teachers with a lot of knowledge.

My life has changed in the sense that I feel a lot more knowledgeable about my art and I have learnt and been able to test a lot of techniques that I wouldn't have been able to learn elsewhere."

"Doing this program was so different to any other education I've ever done. You're treated like an adult and given a lot of freedom when it comes to lunch (!), assignments and general class work.

As for the actual learning part, I can honestly say I've learned so much more than I ever expected. If I reflect on what I knew before BNIT, I find it surprising that I almost knew nothing compared to now.

I can help family members with computer problems, and I also have an overwhelming urge to continue expanding my knowledge on all things networking; it has become something that I enjoy learning about and something for which I'm very passionate."

"I decided to start this course to improve my skills. After I finish high school I want to use the knowledge I gained at BNIT to go to art college in Sydney and then continue on as an artist.

I have found this experience very different to art in school as it is in an adult learning environment which allows us to broaden our thinking and develop our skills to a higher extent.

I really enjoy the projects that our art teacher works with us on because it provokes our imagination "it's exciting."

2010 Queensland Training Awards (QTA) Vocational Student of the Year

When Haylee entered Year 11, she began to juggle her first course at BNIT, Certificate III in Companion Animal Services, with her high school studies, attending BNIT one day per week and work experience at the local RSPCA.

"I know a lot of people value the more traditional academic path over vocational education and training. They think TAFE it is an easy path. But what they don't realise is, you actually end up with almost double the workload of most high school students. But when it comes time to graduating from Year 12, you already have a qualification."

In 2010, Haylee began her second BNIT course, Certificate II in Animal Studies, and secured work experience at Australia Zoo.

"I would really like to work there after I graduate from high school. My ultimate dream at the moment is to become an elephant behaviourist."

Certificate III in Fitness

"My experience at BNIT has been really good; the course was only one day per week so it was easy to stick to for two years with all the support received from classmates and teachers.

Everything has now changed for me and opened up so many more opportunities to pursue a career in fitness. I am now working at Fernwood Women's Health Club as a group fitness instructor and currently studying to be a personal trainer. Due to the program's great balance between practical and theory work, when I started my first day in the industry I felt really confident.

I would definitely recommend the schools program to others because I have learnt so much and it has helped me become prepared for my future. Everyone who is looking to change their life, gain more knowledge and more importantly have a real hands-on experience, this is for you!

I would love to thank my teachers for their exceptional help to complete the course with flying colours. My future is looking very bright with this qualification behind me!"

Courtney Smith
Certificate III in Media

"There is a very high fun factor at BNIT! It doesn't feel like school at all and we are treated as adults and not like school students.

The mixture of resources, course content and industry-trained teachers have made the Certificate III in Media course one that has helped me feel ready to head out into the industry. I am also interested in completing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Animation.

2D animation has been the most enjoyable subject I have completed so far. I was able to really use my imagination and create my very own character-based animation."
