Government assistance

Centrelink provides financial and other assistance to students to assist while undertaking studies. Not all students will be eligible for a benefit as opportunities for assistance vary depending on your individual circumstances. For those who are eligible, a variety of opportunities for assistance may be available.

The most common government assistance schemes are:

  • Austudy and Youth Allowance
  • Abstudy
  • Pensioner Education Supplement

To access more comprehensive information regarding these benefits and to find out more about whether or not you may be eligible for a payment, please visit the Centrelink website, call Centrelink on 13 24 90, or visit a Centrelink office.

Centrelink will determine your eligibility for payment and inform you of any requirements. BNIT can assist you in meeting Centrelink requirements once advised by you; we are unable to advise what Centrelink may require and are unable to determine your eligibility.

Claim forms and information about payments and allowances, including rates of payment, are available from any Centrelink office or by calling 13 24 90. Students are able to claim online via the Centrelink website or by submitting completed claim forms at Centrelink offices.
