Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting (SMIPA)
Three accounting professional bodies: CPA Australia, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and The National Institute of Accountants, have developed this program to be delivered by approved educational providers.
Brisbane North Institute of TAFE (BNIT) has been approved to deliver this exceptional program.
To be eligible you must be the holder of a Skilled Graduate (Temporary) Visa Subclass 485.
Please note that Brisbane North Institute of TAFE does not pay commission on international agents for the Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting.
About the program
This program is aimed at improving participant's professional English language proficiency and cultural communication skills relevant to the Australian business environment. Participants will also benefit from gaining an understanding of the job market - specifically the accounting profession.
A work experience/internship in an accounting role is included as part of the program and will provide participants with an integrated and practical application of the skills already taught.
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to assist them with employment as an accounting professional in Australia, and gain the opportunity to get experience in an Australian workplace through a structured internship.

The 2012 start dates for this program are:
- Monday classes commencing 6 February, 2012
- Tuesday classes commencing 19 June, 2012
- Friday classes commencing 10 August, 2012

- Orientation
- Professional Workplace Skills for Accountants
- 12 week professional internship/work experience.

Fees for the Skilled Migration Internship Program

Please read the following refund policy carefully:
Before the course starts:
Cancellations for this program will be accepted five (5) or more days before the start date. A full refund of fees charged for the program, less an administration fee of $10, will be made.
After the course has commenced:
Cancellations received less than five (5) days before the start date, on the day, or after course commencement, will not be eligible for a refund of any fees and charges paid by/for the student, and any remaining payments due in respect of the enrolment must be paid to BNIT (unless a contract between the parties states otherwise).
Participants may make a written appeal to the Institute Director, for a refund based on special circumstances including severe illness or injury, accompanied by a Medical Certificate.
Please also note: If you have booked to re-sit an IELTS and it is after the program has started you will not be eligible for a refund should you receive a 7.0 in all bands.
Additional information
The Professional Year Program is a 44-week program.
While your Skilled Graduate (Temporary) visa Subclass 485 is current, you will have the right to work in Australia. Please check the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website for more information.
To secure your place in the Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting (SMIPA) you must undertake the following steps:
Step 1: Download and complete the SMIPA form (PDF, 387KB)
Step 2: Ensure you attach the following necessary documents:
- Certified copy of passport
- Copy of Visa 485 or confirmation of Visa 485 application
- Certified English proficiency test results (with a preferred level of 6.0 in each band)
- Certified copies of previous academic results
- Curriculum Vitae
- Successful qualifications assessment for migration purpose from one of the Australian professional accounting bodies.
